Merry and Bright

Things are going to look brighter at the Carbonear Town Hall — literally.

Council last week approved of new lighting in council chambers and the purchase of six new light fixtures for the parking lot.

“There’s been some complaints in regard to poor lighting here in the chambers,” said Town CAO Cynthia Davis, who explained the poor lighting had become more noticeable since the Town started livestreaming council meetings and viewers complained it’s difficult to see the councillors. “So, we do have a quote provided by the contractor that does our electric work. If that’s something council would like to proceed with, we would need a motion to move forward with that.”

Davis also noted some lights on the town hall parking lot had burned out and needed replacement.

“The building here now is 25 years old so they’re having problems sourcing the replacement lights,” said David. “We are proposing to go ahead and make the changes to the fixtures now to upgrade them to LED.”

Oliver Controls and Electric will install the new chamber lighting at a cost of $5,237 and replace the six pole light fixtures with LED fixtures for $5,952.

Both motions were approved unanimously.
