Vandals force evening closure of loos at CBS Park

By Mark Squibb

Citing recent incidents of vandalism, the Town of Conception Bay South announced Tuesday that washrooms at the Bishop’s Road, Long Pond community park will be closed in the evenings.
Councillor-at-large Joshua Barrett offered a glimpse Tuesday of the misbehaviour taking place there some nights.
“Truthfully, you might not even believe me when I tell you the types of things that are going on down there, from people literally starting fires in the washrooms to trying to kick doors down while people are using the washroom,” said the councillor.
Barrett said council is prioritizing the safety of residents and the preservation of Town assets in making the difficult decision.
“I just want to say, personally, as a parent of two young kids, I know how important access to these facilities are, and we’ll continue to explore how we can keep the park safe and clean for all,” he added.
Barrett also issued a warning to those few who would spoil it for the rest.
“I do want to be clear that this type of activity is not tolerated,” said Barrett. “We have a number of cameras at our park facility, and we are in conversation with the RNC about next steps and so, in the interim, if anybody down there witnesses anything, call the Town, call the RNC, and we will certainly do what we can to address these issues.”
The park boasts over 11,000 square feet of inclusive play areas, a performance stage, and the province’s first combination refrigerated outdoor rink and splash pad.
