Kelligrews Soiree 8K Road Race

The annual Kelligrews Soiree 8K Road Race drew a field of some 130 runners last Saturday and from all over, including the three runners above, from left, Ryan Earles of CBS, Chris Sweetland from Spaniard’s Bay, and Josh Morrissey from Bay Bulls. “It was warm, but good,” Morrissey said of the humid running weather. “Way better than the Tely 10.” Sweetland agreed. “The breeze was nice,” he said. Brittany Fitzgerald was the top finisher, crossing the line at 32:40. Next was Chris Parsons, 30, of Clarenville, (left photo) who was the top male runner. He drove in from his home that morning to make the 8 a.m. start time for what was only his second race ever. Parsons ran it in 34.31. He took up running earlier this year to get in better shape. “The Tely was the big goal,” Parsons said. He completed that in one hour and 21 minutes. He’s hoping to run more races this summer. “I’m loving it, actually,” he said of his newfound pastime. “I’m getting to meet lots of great people.” Craig Westcott photos.
