Carbonear variance request nullified

By Mark Squibb

Carbonear council last week determined that a prior variance request for a garage application at a Hillview Avenue property was rendered unnecessary as the application was found to be in compliance with the new municipal plan and development regulations.
The new rules allow upwards of a 10 percent lot coverage. Council also approved two other minor variances at the same address.
Meanwhile, council also issued a permit to repair and replace a set of outdoor stairs at a Water Street dwelling, despite the stairs not being compliant with the Town’s minimum rear yard requirements. The stairs are the only means to access the second floor of the dwelling and predate the Town’s development regulations.
All three motions were approved unanimously by the five members present — Mayor Frank Butt and councillors Chris O’Grady, Ray Noel, Malcolm Seymour, and Peter Snow. Deputy Mayor Sam Slade and councillor Danielle Doyle were absent.
