Carbonear to borrow for fire equipment

By Mark Squibb

Carbonear council has approved the purchase of some new equipment for the fire department and will borrow from the bank to cover the cost.
Councillor Ray Noel moved that council award the tender for a new cascade system to K&D Pratt for $56,295, HST included, and that council seek permission from the Department of Municipal Affairs to borrow $51,049 for a five-year term amortized at a rate of prime plus 0.25 percent to finance it.
Cascade systems store high volumes of breathable air in portable tanks and are an important piece of equipment when combating fires.
The motion was approved unanimously by council, excepting that Deputy Mayor Sam Slade and councillor Danielle Doyle were absent from the meeting and thus did not vote.
