CBS council discovers rising cost of keeping a roof over head

By Craig Westcott

You might say costs are going through the roof at the Cronin’s Head Wastewater Treatment Plant in Kelligrews.
At last week’s public council meeting, recreation committee chairman Joshua Barrett asked council to approve a contract worth more than a million dollars to replace the roof at the plant.
The job will go to JMJ Holdings for $1,103,419 including HST.
“This is something that’s certainly been on the radar for us as a council for some time,” said the councillor-at-large, noting it was included in the Town’s recent application to the Province seeking approval to use federal gas tax money to cover the work.
“The wastewater treatment plant is 23 years old, and it still has its original roof,” said Barret. “This is the cost that it takes with the cost of materials and to do this work. This is the number we’re looking at now.”
Mayor Bent said wastewater management is important to the town, so it has to be done.
The motion to approve the contract passed unanimously.
