CBS celebrates home grown Miss Newfoundland

By Mark Squibb

Megan Coles of Conception Bay South was crowned Miss Newfoundland and Labrador last week, and received a warm welcome by council when she visited the chambers Tuesday night.
“Its quite the honour to represent both our town and the province of Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Coles. “I’m very excited to attend events in our town and across the province and to meet the people of our province.”
Coles is a registered nurse at the Janeway Children’s Hospital.
“It’s an honour to represent the profession of nursing,” said Coles. “I deal with patients from newborns right up to age 18, and I think its important for them to see that you can do anything you can put your mind to, even if it’s something outside of your comfort zone, like this was for me.”
Coles said she already has plans to attend a number of events this January and February, including the town’s Winterfest community breakfast, where she will be serving pancakes alongside members of council and other volunteers.
Mayor Darrin Bent joked that for all of his years working as a reporter, this was his very first opportunity to interview Miss Newfoundland and Labrador.
Bent presented Coles with both a goodie bag and certificate on behalf of the Town.
