Carbonear continues effort to find eyes for its promotional videos

By Mark Squibb

Carbonear council and staff are still looking for a means to get more eyes on a number of tourism videos the Town distributed on social media in recent months.

“We’ve spent quite a bit of money on those ads, for tourism, and I know I’ve talked about this before, but the ads are going to start running now with YOLO which is that organization that is doing some promotional work for us,” said councillor Danielle Doyle during a recent public meeting.

Doyle added that council will get reports on the effort on a quarterly basis.

“The EDTO (Economic Development and Tourism Officer) will be able to give us feedback on numbers, and whether or not it’s good exposure and then we can re-evaluate and see if there’s any other avenues that we can use to share information about our town,” said the councillor.

Doyle raised the issue in February, explaining the Town had commissioned the creation of four tourism videos and were looking for avenues to increase the number of people clicking the links to view them.

The Town paid $41,400 HST included, for the four videos, which were completed in 2022.

Council contracted YOLO, the online marketer referenced by Doyle, at a cost of $5,434 back in June, in the hopes of enticing professionals such as doctors to view the videos and consider relocating to pursue a more balanced work and family life in Carbonear.
