Walk along the track turned dangerous for Holyrood owner and pet

I was walking my friend’s dog along the track in Holyrood during the snowstorm on Sunday morning. Our beautiful walk was completely turned upside down when my dog got her face tangled in a snare that someone had set right on the side of the track.
Having never seen a snare before I couldn’t figure out how to release it. It was so tangled and the more my dog pulled the tighter it held.
I broke the branch off the tree that the snare was tied on and tried to get her to walk with me back to the house where I could get some clippers to cut the snare off, but she wouldn’t walk. She was panicking and trying desperately to remove the wire. I have to say I was really feeling desperate and helpless.
I crouched on the ground and just started trying to get the wire off my dog. Luckily, she finally allowed me to help her. Between vehemently praying to God and just pure desperation I actually managed to get the horrible thing out of her mouth and off her nose.
These snares are absolutely cruel! They are a horrible and torturous way to slowly kill an animal. I understand they were once and still are used to snare rabbits, but my God isn’t there a more humane way?
