The Town of Paradise has launched a notification system to give residents important alerts and information through text messages, e-mail, and phone calls.

“We know our residents have been asking for a notification system and we’re excited to launch this new system to keep our residents up to date on Town operations and activities,” said Mayor Dan Bobbett. “The resident notification system is the first phase of our plans to enhance resident communications. Next year, we will be implementing the second phase which includes a service request platform and new Town app. It is expected to be launched by the summer.”

When launched, the Town app will include a garbage collection calendar and allow residents to receive reminders about garbage and recycling days.

The Town has selected Voyent Alert to provide the notification system. It is a Canadian-based company with hundreds of municipal clients across the country, according to Paradise Town staff.

To register for the system, residents can visit the Town’s website and follow a step-by-step process. The free service enables residents to select the topics they want to be notified about and to register their preferred contact methods. Residents who don’t have access to a computer, can call the Town at 709-781-1400 and staff will help them register for the service.

“This system allows residents to select how they want to be notified, and that was important to us in selecting a service provider,” Bobbett said. “While many residents have asked for text notifications, we know not all residents want that and with our service they can be notified via e-mail or a phone call. We want to provide a service that meets the needs of all residents.”

Bobbett noted the system can provide notices about closures and cancellations, planning applications, public meetings, recreation programs, construction alerts, and other Town activities.
