CBS dips into next year’s budget to pay for lift station work

By Mark Squibb

While it’s been nowhere near the headache that Lift Station No. 10 has proved to be for neighbouring Paradise council, the Lance Cove Lift Station in Seal Cove did cause some grief for Conception Bay South councillors this month.

Council last week ratified an earlier vote to approve $25,430, plus tax, in repairs for the lift station.

During the same meeting, council also voted to purchase a pump for the lift station from Xylem at a cost of $44,638 plus HST.

To purchase the new pump, council will have to dip into Budget 2024, which it adopted earlier that night.

“This lift station is over 20 years old so its constantly having regular maintenance and it’s at the end of it’s service life,” said Ward 4 councillor Melissa Hardy. “It’s something we need to get corrected and fixed, so it doesn’t have as many repairs moving forward.”

During the same meeting, council also approved the purchase of heating equipment for the Wastewater Treatment Plant at an approximate cost of $10,000.
