Every year in anticipation of Halloween, Ariel Swantee spends a month setting up an elaborate garden of horrors at her home and business called Miss Fancy Plants in Long Pond, Conception Bay South. While not so much a fan of horror movies, she loves the vibe of the spooky season and things that go bump in the night. “I like the weather, I like the leaves…it’s spooky outside if you’re out walking around,” she said. Many of the installations are creations of her own design, such as a spider made of pool noodles. She says the season gives her a good reason to let her creative side out as she doesn’t make as much art as when she was younger. Chad Feehan photos
