Admirals Academy Grade 4 students name garbage trucks

They sound like future foes or maybe even friends of Godzilla. The names dreamed up by Grade 4 students at Admirals Academy in Kelligrews for two of the Town of Conception Bay South’s garbage trucks have handles that are sure to stick. The naming contest was designed to encourage civic participation by young people. Mayor Darrin Bent unveiled the winners at the end of Municipal Awareness Week – King Stink and Garbatron. “The contest aimed to foster student creativity while strengthening the connection between the municipal government and its youngest residents,” said Bent. “Involving students is about showing young people that the municipal sector is an important and fun place to work and allowing them to be part of decision-making. They’ve met the challenge with great interest and enthusiasm.” The winning classes were rewarded with a well-deserved pizza party, and the names were installed with decals on the garbage trucks.
