Doyle dismayed at low luncheon turnout

The Town of Carbonear is looking for ways to attract businesses to town-hosted business events and luncheons.

“The Town recently held a business luncheon networking session,” said councillor Danielle Doyle. “The Town put a lot of effort into the business luncheon and the space looked great, but it wasn’t greatly attended. So, we (the Economic Development, Planning and Land Use Development committee) discussed ways that we could engage the business community in our town to become more engaged in the economic development process.”

Doyle said that Economic Development Officer Kerri Abbott would be reaching out to other towns to discuss how they make events attractive to local businesses.

“We want as many people to come out to these events as possible,” said Doyle. “It’s meant to be networking for the businesses in our town, not necessarily for the municipality. We want conversations going on to create other business opportunities.”

This past July, Doyle had noted the town would be exploring ways to profile and promote different business sectors within the town.

To her knowledge, there are over 200 businesses registered with the town.
