New ice cream parlour given green light by Carbonear council

By Mark Squibb/July 29, 2022

After last weekend’s heat wave, folks are probably rejoicing at the news of council giving the ‘ok-go’ for a new ice cream parlour to open in Carbonear.

Council unanimously approved an application to develop an ice cream shop at 171-175A Water Street, conditional upon required services being available, customer parking on Water Street, and approval from Digital Government and Services.

Residents in Carbonear may remember there used to be an ice cream parlour on Water Street years ago.

During that same meeting, council also gave the greenlight for exterior renovations to 154 water street (conditional upon requirements of the Heritage Zone) and renovations to 192 Water Street, so that that property might be used as a retail rental unit, conditional upon Heritage Zone requirements and approval from the Department of Digital Government and Service NL.

154 Water Street is the current home of The Green Door Book Store.

Council also gave the go-ahead for the main level floor of 203-11 Water Street to be used for office space conditional upon approval from the Department of Digital Government and Service NL.

The approval of all the above was unanimous.
