CBS outdoor skating rink to open when weather permits

With the Frog Pond dried up, you’ve probably wondered where in CBS you can go for an outdoor skate.

According to the meeting minutes of a recreation committee meeting held on December 12, the date for opening the refrigerated community skating rink behind Long Pond Dominion is weather dependent and will not be until sometime this new year.

The combined outdoor rink plus splash pad is billed as the first in the province. The community park is also home to walking trails, a performance stage, and playgrounds. The City of St. John’s, meanwhile, opened its refrigerated outdoor ice-skating trail, The Loop at Bannerman Park, on December 15 when temperatures were close to 11 degrees above zero.

Besides the skating rink, meanwhile, the recreation committee discussed a number of other items during its meeting, including upcoming events such as Winterfest, the Kelligrews Soiree, and a sport and volunteer awards gala to take place in June.

The committee also discussed the possibility of booking Canada’s Circus Spectacular, a touring circus show of clowns, daredevils, and aerialists that are said to amaze and amuse all across the country. The committee requested recreation staff check with neighbouring municipalities about their plans for the 2024 season first.
