If you heard a cacophony of sirens in Paradise last Wednesday and again on Thursday afternoon, you can rest assured they didn’t signal disaster. Rather, the Town of Paradise was hosting Grade 6 students from Paradise Intermediate at the Double Ice Complex to help them learn about day-to-day municipal operations. Students were able to climb aboard (and beep the horn) of a number of Town vehicles, including a fire truck, police car, search and rescue mobile unit, front end loader, and even an electric Zamboni. Students also learned about the Town’s Green Goal program, an initiative launched this May to support progressive waste management and environmental sustainability. Over the last few years, the Town has undertaken a number of green initiatives, including the installation of solar lights in Paradise Park and the purchase of electric vehicles such as the battery-operated Zambonis at the Paradise Double Ice Complex, and hopes to encourage residents, businesses, and community groups to also think green.
