Big wait list for new pumper

By Craig Westcott

The Town of Conception Bay South has placed an order for a new fire truck at a cost of $1.6 million.
The truck is a pumper and rescue vehicle that will be supplied by a company called Safety Source Fire.
Ward 3 councillor Gerard Tilley, who made the motion to buy the truck, allowed it is a lot more sophisticated than the ones in use when he joined the fire department as a volunteer some 30 years ago.
“This purchase is to replace one of our aging fleet of fire trucks, and you’ll notice it has a delivery date of 2027, unfortunately due to the excessively high demand of these specialized trucks across the country,” Tilley said. “We have to order them up to two years in advance. We’re pleased to be adding these types of pumpers to our fleet.”
Mayor Darrin Bent said it is a necessary addition to the fire department and the Town has to be proactive when it comes to acquiring specialized equipment.
