The Conception Bay South Lions Club recently hosted its Junior Speak Out. Each of the five participants spoke on a chosen topic, and then responded to one question from Trevor Rowe. The performances were judged by Gennita Bartlett, Emily Rowe and Robert Dawe.

Brooke White of Frank Roberts Junior High School placed first for a speech entitled “Beauty Pageants – Good or Bad?”

First runner-up, Payton Slade, a Holy Spirit High student, presented her ideas on “The Effects of Social Media on the Public.”

Second runner-up, Karlee Grandy of Frank Roberts Junior High, shared her concerns on “Air Pollution.”

Frank Roberts student Chantal Wheaton discussed “Vegetarianism” while Aaliyah Noftle of Admiral’s Academy offered a speech entitled, “The Last Hug.”

Adjudicator Bartlett commented on the excellence of all five presentations while engaging the participants in a discussion of their experiences and public speaking in general. All five participants received recognition for their public speaking skills.

Entertainment during the event was provided by Claire Ryan, of Frank Roberts Junior High, whose vocal and guitar performance captivated the audience.

At the conclusion of the evening, students, parents, friends and members of the CBS Lions Club enjoyed refreshments, as they congratulated all those involved in the Speak Out.
