Good judgement on the part of councillors
Dear Editor:
In your February 5, 2026 Edition of The Shoreline an affirmation of ‘the consideration for the other’ was observed in a decision CBS Council made by rescinding the discount on property taxes for all seniors, while entitling low income seniors a greater discount amounting to 25 per cent.
It’s a decision where reasonable and mature governing heads prevailed, a collective decision of unity and sense of connection relevant in a changing world, particularly our reality and present geo-political circumstance.
I reiterate Deputy Mayor Andrea Gosse in saying, “So hopefully the help gets to where people need it more.” That’s a mantra I support. Capitalism is one driving force, a stabilizer, all be it not at any cost. Only when ‘consideration for the other’ is witnessed in balance and economic fairness, giving to people having less and not self-giving to those whom already have it is it proper.
Graham Greeley,
