Paradise bolsters public works fleet

By Mark Squibb

The Town of Paradise added a number of pieces to its public works fleet last month, including three new pickup trucks.
In 2024, the Town disposed of nine small fleet vehicles, including a number of pickup trucks. The Town purchased four pickup trucks in 2024 and staff recently issued another tender for the supply and delivery of two new pickup trucks with the option to purchase one additional vehicle.
Lone bidder Hickman Motors submitted a bid in the amount of $171,699, HST included, for the three trucks.
“This is pretty straight-forward,” said public works lead councillor Tommy Maher. “We need some new trucks and we’re going to get them.”
Staff had budgeted $165,000 for the purchase.
Council also approved the purchase of a loader mounted sweeper attachment that can pick up debris and clean curbs and gutters. The attachment will compliment the fleet of sweeper trucks.
Staff sent a request for quotes to three local suppliers, and in turn received two qualifying bids. Staff recommended council buy the attachment from lowest bidder Madsen Construction Equipment in the amount of $60,937, HST included.
Staff had budgeted $65,000 for the equipment.
Both purchases were approved unanimously.
