Holyrood’s Blue Ocean Industrial Park hit by vandals

By Mark Squibb

Holyrood Deputy Mayor Michele Woodford said the Blue Ocean Industrial Park has been hit by vandals on two separate occasions over the last few months.
“It’s not nice when your businesses are targeted, and you don’t know why you’re being targeted,” said Woodford. “We just want to put it out there to the public and to the business community and to the Blue Ocean Industrial Park owners that the Town is here to support however we can support in moving forward with these issues, as well as in working with local authorities who are investigating. So, hopefully the people who did this will be found or caught and it won’t happen again. Because no business wants to be targeted in a negative way.”
Mayor Gary Goobie pleaded with residents that if they see something, say something.
“So, if you’re passing through at four o’ clock in the morning and see someone up to something suspicious, you need to make that phone call,” said Goobie.
Councillor Bruce King, during his public safety committee update, said vandalism seems to be becoming more and more common, referencing the recent theft of the Amelia Earhart statue in Harbour Grace.
“This is not something that you just pick up under your arm and go,” said King. “These things are heavy. So, it wasn’t the act of one particular person, it was the act of probably several.”
King also referenced the recent theft of about $9,000 worth of windows and doors from Hickey’s Timber Mart in Harbour Main.
“People seem to have absolutely no fear of getting caught,” said King, who added that it seems even security cameras don’t deter criminals, although the footage can help police track them down.
