The Town of Bay Roberts has decided to go a different route with its staffing budget for this year.
The Town has previously budgeted money to hire an employee for marketing.
“We felt that, this time, we would need a finance person,” said Chief Administrative Officer Dave Tibbo.
Thus, the council decided instead to recruit a Manager of Finance and Procurement.
There were 15 applicants for the job. The hiring committee consisted of Tibbo, Tourism and Economic Development Director Ron Delaney, and Mayor Geoff Seymour. The hiring committee recommended Roxanne Wade for the position.
“Ms. Wade has an extensive background and many years of experience in various levels of accounting and administration,” said Tibbo. “In her previous role, she oversaw the financial operations of several accounts within the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. She has much experience in managing several accounts, financial statements preparation, managing organizational budgets, as well as procurement, accounts payable, receivables, payroll functions, and she has an extensive background in several computerized accounting programs.” The motion to hire Wade passed unanimously.
“I think it’s going to be a well-served position in the town,” said Councillor Dean Franey. “Finances are very important so someone with a background in finance is going to be a great asset.”
Mayor Seymour agreed.
“When it comes to finances, there’s no bigger responsibility we have as a council than to make sure that the Town’s taxpayers’ dollars are managed wisely and spent wisely,” he said. “And if this position helps us to achieve that, then I’m all for it.”
