Paradise approves payment for lift station emergency work

By Mark Squibb

The Town of Paradise has approved a payment of $24,082, HST included, to RV Andersen for overseeing repairs to Lift Station 10 following the November pump failure and subsequent state of emergency.
Councillor Tommy Maher said RV Andersen provided critical technical support during the recent Lift Station 10 pump failure and state of emergency, and that staff asked the company to record its time separately from its work on the St. Thomas Line Pump Station construction project and submit incurred costs as an engineering change notice.
While the work will be executed as a change order to the St. Thomas Line Pumphouse project, it will be charged against the state of emergency ledger code on the Town’s accounting books. As such, it will not impact the St. Thomas Line Pumphouse project.
To that end, council approved a change order for engineering support during the lift station fail-ure.
The actual cost to repair the pump was about $30,000.
