Ambulance confusion in Holyrood worries councillor
By Mark Squibb
Holyrood councillor Bruce King says a recent incident has tuned him in to an issue that residents should be made aware of.
King said that while out shovelling snow one February evening, an ambulance pulled into his driveway with lights flashing. The ambulance driver asked King to confirm his civic number, and asked whether there was a child having a medical emergency at the home. King told him, ‘No.’
“He turned around and said, ‘I guess this is the wrong place,’ and went back along Route 60 to-wards CBS,” said King, adding the incident left him concerned.
King said he would not be impressed if he were a resident of Conception Bay South who had called for an ambulance only for it to arrive at a home in Holyrood.
“For the time it takes to go to Holyrood and find out you’re in the wrong place, and go back to CBS, instead of taking somebody to the hospital, you could very well be taking them to the morgue,” said King.
The councillor said he later Googled his home address and found matching addresses in differ-ent towns along the Conception Bay Highway, including CBS, Bay Roberts, Coley’s Point, Span-iards Bay, and Colliers.
King said the issue was being discussed at the fire hall and with dispatchers. Furthermore, he recommends that if you do call 911, be sure to tell the dispatcher your community as well as your street address.
