House numbers becoming an issue in Holyrood

By Craig Westcott

Residents of Holyrood can expect to see a new piece of information on their property assessments next year, namely their civic numbers, which in some cases might be different than what they expect.

The town is one of the fastest growing municipalities in the province with lanes and road extensions sprouting off streets in new subdivisions.

Deputy Mayor Michelle Woodford told her colleagues earlier this month that street numbering is becoming an issue.

“We’re getting off from the regular numbers and we’re getting to A and B and C and everything else, which we don’t want to be doing, because it’s not the correct method for assigning numbers,” she explained.

Woodford said staff will talk with the consultant who serves as Holyrood’s Town Planner and ask him to review the roads and streets to determine what the correct civic addresses should be for each property.

“So, they’re going to assign those in the future when we get new (property tax) bills,” she said.
