No red ink left from this year’s Squidfest
The bills are in, and everything associated with this past summer’s Squidfest has been paid, Holyrood council learned at its last public meeting.
Corporate Services committee chairperson Laura Crawley noted that this time around council implemented a new policy requiring that all invoices from vendors be submitted and payment turned around within 30 days of the event’s closing.
“And it worked splendidly,” Crawley said. “There are no leftovers, no residuals. It’s fantastic”
All told, the Town spent some $136,629 on Squidfest this year.
Mayor Gary Goobie said he liked the new policy as sometimes in previous years council would be waiting “months and months and months” for invoices to come in.
“And that delayed the recreation director from putting together the financial report from the festival,” he said.
Goobie added that $136,629 may sound like a big amount, but all the bills are paid.
“The next step now is we’ll get a financial report that identifies the revenues that were generated from the festival,” he added. “And from what I understand, it will be a good report. And I’ll leave it at that.”
