CBS Half Marathon drawing a crowd of hopefuls

Even after an increase to the initial registration limit, folks are still lining up to register for the Town of Conception Bay South’s inaugural T’Railway Trek Half Marathon.
“We’ve had a lot of interest in this already, to the point that we’ve actually increased the number of participants, and I know there are already a number of folks on the waitlist again,” said councillor Joshua Barrett during Tuesday’s public council meeting. “So, we’re very excited to be pulling this off on September 29.”
As of August 15, if you visit the Town’s website to register for the inaugural half marathon, you’ll be met with a message saying that registration has closed as the event has reached its capacity of 300 participants. There is a waiting list of 50 people.
The half marathon, a distance of 13 miles, or 21 kilometres, begins at the College of the North Atlantic Seal Cove Campus. Participants will follow Route 60 and then merge onto the T’railway at Doyles Road. Participants will cross Route 60 at Greeleytown Road, continue along the T’railway, pass through the Kitty Ades Turn intersection and proceed eastbound, then head north on Frog Pond Road, take a left onto Topsail Road, continue down through Topsail, turn off at Topsail Beach Road, and cross the finish line at Topsail Beach.
Barrett added that council is still seeking sponsors for the event.
“We have had a lot of interest from local businesses and organizations and sports groups that are willing to provide hydration stations and the like along the T’Railway, and we’re still looking for other organizations to get involved,” said Barrett. “We do have various tiers of sponsorship packages that you can check out on our website or chat with out staff about.”
Barrett encouraged those who believe they can provide their services for the marathon to reach out to staff.
“We truly think that this is going to be a really big, and great, inaugural event that will get more traction over the years,” said the councillor.
