Paradise Town Hall to get better placed loos
By Mark Squibb
Paradise council has tendered for the construction of new washrooms at the Town Hall that will be more easily accessible to the public.
The current washrooms are tucked awkwardly away inside the building. Without someone to point your way, you might never find them.
The tender was issued on June 12 and closed on July 10 and includes the demolition of the current washrooms and construction of two new, barrier free washrooms.
Three companies bid on the work, and the infrastructure committee recommended council approve the lowest submission of $135,000 plus HST courtesy of Lindsey Construction Ltd.
Councillor Glenn Carew brought forward the motion to do just that during last week’s meeting.
Carew’s motion to award the tender, valued at $155,250, HST included, upon final review and acceptance of the tender’s details by staff, was approved unanimously, except that Deputy Mayor Kimberley Street was not present and thus did not vote.
Councillor Larry Vaters noted that council had budgeted around $210,000 for the work and he was glad to see the project was well within budget.
Councillor Patrick Martin added that council had a kick at upgrading the washrooms a few years back but that the work proved well over budget at that time.
