Paradise to do work itself after bids come in over budget

Paradise council has elected to complete some much-needed work along Cameo Drive in-house after bids came in much higher than expected.
The Town budgeted $100,000 this year to complete work along Cameo Drive that would hopefully correct surface drainage in rear yards on numerous properties.
Deputy Mayor Kimberley Street, during the May 28 public meeting, said the request for proposals closed May 10, and that all three submissions came in significantly over the $100,000 the Town had budgeted for the project.
Street moved to cancel the project due to “budget considerations” and instead use Town staff to complete the work.
Councillor Larry Vaters said he supported that decision.
“Residents on Cameo Drive have certainly been waiting for some time now to have these issues addressed, so I’m really, really glad to see that this is happening,” said Vaters.
Councillor Patrick Martin echoed Vater’s sentiments, noting the tender results were “way over” what the Town had budgeted.
Council voted unanimously in favour of the motion.
