Paradise gets lower costs for work gear

By Chad Feehan / Local Journalism Initiative Reporter

The Town of Paradise is spending less on clothing for its workers than previously thought, after correcting the reported price of its new municipal duds.
Last month, Councillor Patrick Martin detailed the Town’s most recent contracts with Rock Safety Industrial and Valiant Canada for personal protective equipment which includes boots, coveralls, overalls, rainsuits, jackets and other personal protective equipment (PPE) items.
The prices mentioned were wrong due to errors in calculating taxes, and have been reduced to $30,971 for Rock Safety Industrial, and $49,729 for Valiant Canada. The revised numbers reflect a $14,113 total decrease compared to the previously reported prices.
Councillor Martin explained and corrected the mix-up during a recent council meeting.
“The amounts provided in the memo were incorrect as the HST had already been applied,” he said. “Therefore, the motion should be amended to reflect the correct amount.”
Councillor Glen Carew saw the change as a bit of good news.
“It’s good to see a little deflation going on here,” he said. “Normally in our memos we see things rapidly getting more and more expensive so it’s nice to see that factored in.”
Last year, the Town broke the contracts down into categories to get a better price on materials and continued that practice with this recent purchase.
