Paradise Youth Centre to get facelift

By Mark Squibb / June 16, 2023

The Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre (RPYCC) will be getting a little bit of a facelift, as council this past week approved some new masonry work.

Councilor Deborah Quilty told council that back in April, the Town issued a request for quotes to five companies; BELFOR, Clarkes Masonry, Skinner Masonry, MJR Masonry and Hunts Masonry.

Of those five companies, two submitted quotes: Clarkes Masonry at a cost of $19,895, HST included, and Skinner’s Masonry, at a cost of $17,710, HST included.

Quilty moved that council award the masonry repairs contract to the lowest-qualified bidder Skinner’s Masonry, and council approved the motion unanimously.

“The masonry repairs will improve the building’s envelope and hence strengthen the town’s strive for optimal energy efficiency in all municipal facilities,” said Quilty.

The approval is subject to a final review by staff for bid compliance.

The RPYCC, located at 1 Sarah Davis Way, is home to a 24-foot indoor rock climbing wall, skate park, the Ches Penney Youth Centre, resource rooms, and the Hedley Blundon Gymnasium.
