Pilot project coming to make Dunns Hill Road intersection safer

By Craig Westcott/March 10, 2022

Town staff and engineers with Harbourside Transportation Consultants are finalizing the details for a pilot project designed to make traffic flow a little safer at the intersection of Dunns Hill Road and Route 60 in Foxtrap.

“This pilot project comes as the result of a public engagement during the Town’s integrated transportation study,” said CBS Ward 3 councillor Gerard Tilley, who chairs council’s public works committee. “This intersection was identified for review, specifically the vehicle turning movements at this intersection.”

The details of the changes will be made public before they are implemented, Tilley said. “I just want to let the residents there know that we’ll be meeting with All Saints Parish as well just to have a chat with them to let them know what we’re doing, because it affects those folks as well.”

Mayor Darrin Bent said the safety issues at that particular intersection were raised with probably everyone who ran during last fall’s election.

“This council is not going to sit by with something like that,” Bent added. “We’re going to take a look at it and see what we can do. So Harbourside is going to come in and do a full assessment and then hopefully we can move forward with some changes that will make the area safer. Once we get back the information from Harbourside, we will go from there and plan to move forward with something in the spring.”
