Police on hunt for cable cutter

Police officers with the Holyrood detachment of the RCMP had another unusual call this past week: this time to a report that a fibre op cable had been cut at a site off the Witless Bay Line. The damage interrupted service provided by Eastlink to its customers and the cost was significant, said a police spokesperson. Staff Sergeant Richard Marshall said the RCMP believe it was an intentional act. Power to the cable was interrupted at 7:57 p.m. that evening. The investigation is continuing. Marshall is asking that anyone with information about the incident to contact Holyrood RCMP at 229-3892. To remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222- 8477.
