Paradise purchasing new pump for lift station

By Tyler Waugh, Local Journalism Initiative Reporter

The Town of Paradise is one step closer to completing repairs to its second-largest lift station.
Council supported a recommendation from staff at its March 3 committee of the whole meeting to purchase a new 85 horsepower submersible pump for the Woodstock Lift Station.
“The Woodstock Lift Station is the second-largest wastewater pumping facility in the Town of Paradise, playing a critical role in our Town’s sanitary and sewer infrastructure,” said councillor Tommy Maher in presenting the recommendation. “In the past year the station has experienced operational issues that have impacted its performance and reliability.”
Maher said the facility is operating with one newly installed submersible pump, along with a rental unit from a local supplier. The proposed purchase of a new pump from Xylem Solutions comes at a quoted cost of $110,706, plus HST.
Maher said the new pump will replace the rental unit and has a life expectancy of around 20 years.
“Hopefully tonight we will move this forward and get this going,” Maher said.
Councillor Sheldon Antle clarified again that council has known for some time that the pump needed to be replaced and the purchase was budgeted. He asked Maher who would be responsible for installation and what the warranty time is on the pump.
“We have fully-trained staff that will be installing this pump, our in-house staff will be doing that. And typically, there is a 12 months warranty on this particular pump,” said Maher.
Budget 2026 contains money for a multi-year plan for the Woodstock Lift Station with a focus this year on the engineering design and project planning, while also replacing some key components to ensure it continues to operate.
