Woodford pleased with NL Hydro’s generosity

It’s not very often you get anything free from Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, but some Holyrood residents found themselves in that rare position this past summer.
The situation arose after NL Hydro cleared away some woods around its generating station in Holyrood so that it could make upgrades at the plant.
“They provided 141 cords of wood,” said Deputy Mayor Michelle Woodford. “So here at the Town we held a wood lottery and 141 residents received a free cord of wood. That was great. So, thank you to Newfoundland Hydro for doing that.”
Woodford was doubly pleased with the Crown utility because NL Hydro also provided Holyrood’s fire department with access to its water supplies during the wildfire in the community this past August. The supplies were important as the town, like much of the island, was experiencing a severe drought right at the time when the wildfire caused some portions of the community, including the residential area near the generating station, to be evacuated for several days.
