Clarke’s Beach mayor suggests way to expand town services

After receiving a letter from a resident on the corner of Snows Avenue and Main Street, Clarke’s Beach council hopes to implement a curb stop so he can connect to the municipal water and sewer lines.

Snows Avenue is not yet connected to the Town’s services, and Main Street’s lines fall a few feet short of the resident’s corner property.

Mayor Danielle Bussey noted that four households, including the resident’s, are currently sharing a well.

“So, I think they’d be able to connect through him and then they’d also be able to access town water until we get Snows done,” said Bussey, who gave council the chance to voice any concerns, but none were raised.

“It’s not like we’re running it in Snows,” said Bussey. “We’re just pulling the curb stop up.”

Bussey noted the property owners would be responsible for hooking onto the water and sewer lines, but that council would get engineers to take care of the curb stop. She said council would discuss it with Ron Laracy, who is in charge of Clarke’s Beach’s maintenance and water operations.

“If it’s doable, I don’t have an issue with trying to get those people off the well,” said Bussey. “I know they’ve had issues in the past with low water, we’ve had to bring cases of water up to them and stuff like that, so I don’t see an issue there.”

Councillor Alice Russell made a motion to talk to an engineer about the idea, which was seconded by councillor Keegan Healey. The motion carried unanimously.
