Paradise may twin St. Thomas Line force main

By Mark Squibb

The Town of Paradise is considering twinning a force main along St. Thomas Line to better increase the system’s capacity.

There is currently one forcemain that leaves the St. Thomas Line pumphouse and runs along St. Thomas Line to the high point of Plateau Park.

Councillor Erin Furlong said that due to a history of issues with the force main, staff, in 2022, contracted RB Andersen to complete an engineering study, which recommended twinning the force main.

In August, staff issued a request for proposals for a pre-feasibility study to upgrade the current infrastructure to a twinned force main. Three consulting firms submitted proposals, and staff recommended council award the contract to highest-ranking consultant, RB Andersen, in the amount of $54,625, HST included.

Staff had budgeted $50,000 for the pre-feasibility study.

Council approved the recommendation unanimously.

The pumphouse is being constructed to replace lift station 10, which has suffered a number of costly malfunctions over the years.
