Paradise seeks federal money for street projects

By Mark Squibb

The Town of Paradise has applied to the Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF) to seek funding for three separate projects.

Deputy Mayor Kimberley Street brought forward the three motions during a recent public meeting.

The first motion was for partial funding of the 2025 street maintenance project.

The contract was awarded to Modern Paving Ltd., in an amount of $917,565, plus HST earlier this year. Street explained the work was composed of two sections — Part A, valued at $231,260, includes a new concrete sidewalk on Aurora Place and Portugal Place, and partial removal and reinstatement of new sidewalk, curb and gutter on Trail’s End, Elizabeth Park, and Karwood Estates and partial concrete, sidewalk, curb and gutter replacement throughout town. Part B consists of asphalt patching throughout town at a cost of $668,305.

Council applied for funding to cover Part A in the amount of $265,949, HST included. The actual road maintenance portion of the contract, said Street, was not eligible for CCBF funding.

Council is also applying for CCBF Funding for the Trenton Drive Open Space project.

Council awarded the contract to design and construct a multi-use open space at Trenton Drive to Cadillac Services in the amount of $339,186, HST included, in June, and will be applying for funding for the full project amount.

Lastly, council applied for CCBF funding for the Lanark – Glendarek intersection improvement project. Council awarded Dexter Construction Company the contract to construct a raised intersection with new concrete curbs and sidewalks in the amount of $362,115, HST included. Council will be applying for funding to cover that amount as well.
