‘So much more work to do,” says Street

Kimberley Street, who was recently named interim mayor following the resignation of former mayor Dan Bobbett, is seeking re-election in the upcoming municipal election.
Street was first elected in a 2019 by-election called after former councillor Paul Dinn was elected as the Progressive Conservative MHA for Topsail-Paradise – the seat now being contested by Bobbett.
Street ran a second successful campaign in 2021. Having gained more votes than any other candidate, she was named deputy mayor shortly thereafter.
“There is so much work to do, and four years go by so quickly,” said Street. “There are things that I want to work on that I think are really important to our town. I love our town, and I want more for Paradise.”
Some of those projects include the completion of the water and sewer priority list and a trails master plan. Street would also like to see bathroom facilities added along some of those trails.
“We have a real problem, like other neighbouring towns, with speeding and illegal use of dirt bikes and ATVs on our town roads,” added Street. “And so, a town our size, I believe needs police presence in the form of an RNC detachment. And with all that happening, we have our traffic calming, and many of our streets still need traffic calming, and so I would like to continue to support that in the budget.”
If elected, Street said she will continue to advocate for a new high school, new water tower, and new access points for Topsail Road.
A federal government employee and former director of both the Canadian Home Builders Association Newfoundland and Labrador chapter and the Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating, Street, when not working, campaigning, or attending meetings, likes to spend time with her family in her greenhouse.
But politics is top of mind right now.
“This is something that I love to do, that I’m engaged in, and I want others to be engaged as well,” said Street, who can trace her Paradise roots back six generations. “I want people to know that I care.”
