More plaudits for Harbour Grace firefighters

This year’s Canada Day celebrations in Harbour Grace were a big success, says councillor Gordon Stone, and in no small part to the efforts of the Volunteer Fire Department.
According to Stone, over 200 people attended the events and enjoyed music, cake, games, a bike and scooter parade, and fire truck rides.
“I’ve got to say, from a personal perspective, I watched the young people trying to get on the fire truck, and it was absolutely phenomenal,” said Stone, describing how Assistant Fire Chief Chris Noseworthy and others helped them clamber aboard.
Many children and families would not leave without getting a ride on the vehicle, he noted
“It was something to see. It was one of the beautiful things that our fire department, with all the work they do, they’ve still got time to give our children a ride on the truck,” said Stone. “I think that was fantastic.”
The firefighters also helped set off the fireworks at the end of the day, he added.
Stone also congratulated the civic events committee for organizing such a wonderful celebration.
Later in the meeting, councillor Terry Barnes remarked on how busy the Harbour Grace Volunteer Fire Brigade has been this summer.
“In the past four or five weeks, almost every day, they’ve been out to an MVA (motor vehicle accident) or a serious accident somewhere,” said Barnes.
Barnes said a town cannot do without its volunteers — and thanked not just the members of the brigade, but all volunteers in general.
