It ‘seams’ the love of quilting is alive and well judging by the turnout at the Pigeon Inlet Quilters Guild’s Seams Like Yesterday Quilt Show at the Bay Arena in Bay Roberts July 25-26.

The guild was established in 2006. It has 70 members from across the Avalon, most from Conception Bay North. Seams Like Yesterday was the guild’s largest show to date, showcasing over 200 creations by the members. Along with quilts, wall hangings, pillows, and clothing were on display as well. Some pieces were sponsored by businesses.

Almost 700 people visited the show during its two-day run. In addition to appreciating the creations on display, visitors could peruse the Pigeon Inlet Quilters’ Boutique, where crafts made by guild members could be purchased. Several craft-focused businesses were also invited to sell supplies at the event. Visitors could also enjoy refreshments courtesy of Aunt Sophie’s Kitchen, which served over 150 people during the event.

Guild member Pat Ivimey said as this year marks the guild’s 20th anniversary, they wanted to celebrate both past and present members at the show. Former members were invited to display their works. Former member and past president Georgina King won the viewer’s choice award, which was voted by visitors to the show. She will receive a rosette ribbon from the Canadian Quilters Association.

The guild further honoured its past members through the show’s In Memoriam display. Since the guild’s inception in 2006, fifteen of its members have passed. Seams Like Yesterday included a tribute wall that displayed photos of the women and some of their quilts, which were offered by their families for the show.
