Stormwater project to open up more building space in Foxtrap

By Craig Westcott

Transportation Minister Barry Petten has approved a $3 million upgrade to the storm sewer system on Greeleytown Road in CBS that is expected to open up the area to 450 new houses.

The Province has agreed to put $1.1 million into the project with Ottawa and the Town of CBS spending $816,151 each to complete the work. That’s on top of money for design and other costs. Any cost overruns will be the responsibility of the Town. The work is expected to be completed over the next four years.

In addition to making the area better equipped to handle development, the upgraded sewer system will also benefit the 70 homes already on the street, which has a population of about 200 residents, according to a briefing note prepared for council.

“We’re very excited for this funding announcement,” said Ward 3 councillor Gerard Tilley. “This has been a project that has been in the works for years.”

Tilley noted the project was so important to the Town it was prepared to go it alone, but applied for government funding anyway.

“We’d like to thank our provincial and federal counterparts for their contribution to this important stormwater project,” Tilley added.
