Call the cops, Moores advises Topsail Beach residents

By Craig Westcott

Residents of Topsail Beach Road – we hear you.

That was the message from CBS Ward 1 councillor Shelley Moores last month responding to concerns of people who live along the busy winding link to ever popular Topsail Beach.

“I had an e-mail from the residents of Topsail Beach Road inquiring about some issues that have been happening there over the last number of years regarding speed, the number of cars, the loud cars at different hours of the day, etcetera,” said Moores. “And I just want to let residents know that we do take this very seriously. In the past we haven’t had the capacity or the enforcement to have someone dedicated to that area, which we still don’t, but we do have more enforcement staff now which we can, and plan to, starting this summer and spring, to have more patrols in the area. So that will help a lot for those residents. We also have signage already in the area about the noise. And just a reminder that our bylaws do state that the noise law is in effect after 11 p.m.”

Morris said the road to the beach is narrow and it’s a popular spot for people to visit, so people should slow down when they’re driving to and from the beach.

“If you’re in the area, if you live in the area and you see someone going fast or doing something that they shouldn’t be doing, please call the police, because the more calls that the police get about these issues, it will be on their radar and they will definitely make more of an effort to be down there,” Moores said. “So please don’t not say anything, please call and express your concerns to the police and hopefully this will help alleviate some of the issues in that area.”
