Wait until bulk garbage day, Hardy advises

By Craig Westcott

CBS councillor Melissa Hardy is asking people not to dump their garbage at the end of sideroads, particularly Legion Road in Kelligrews.

The Ward 4 representative raised the matter at a public council meeting this month.

“I have had some residents reach out to me recently about a lot of dumping happening at a lot of end roads in CBS, more specifically right now, Legion Road,” Hardy said. “I just want to let residents know we do have spring cleaning coming up, our bulk garbage (collection) coming up in the next month.”

Hardy said the first bulk garbage collection will be Saturday May 2 with more chances to drop off bulk garbage at the site located at 43 Gateway Drive off Legion Road on Saturday, May 9 and Saturday, May 23.

“I just really want to encourage residents to stop dumping garbage at the end of roads,” Hardy repeated. “Besides it being unsightly, it’s also a fire hazard when it comes to the summer.”

Anyone planning to drop off bulk garbage should note it’s only for residential trash that is not normally picked up at the curb, such as chesterfields and carpets and other big items, and that neither electronics nor materials from contractors are accepted. Off-loading the items is the responsibility of those who use the service, although anyone who has ever turned up at the site will know the Town staff who are on hand are always obliging and helpful.

For those who can’t drop off their bulk garbage, Hardy noted you can book a pickup at your home.

“So put all your bulk garbage in the back part of your yard if you can,” she added. “You can reach out to the Town and book a bulk garbage pickup, but please stop dumping in illegal places.”
