Holyrood’s tax collection efforts in good shape, says Woodford

By Craig Westcott

The Town of Holyrood is finding itself in good financial shape as the calendar closes on 2025, largely because its residents have been so good paying their taxes on time.
Deputy Mayor Michelle Woodford, who chairs the corporate services committee, said as of December 2, some 93.15 per cent of this past year’s residential property tax accounts have been collected.
The rate for water and sewer tax payments is nearly as good, at 92.34 percent, while over 94 per cent of business taxes have been paid.
Finally, 88.22 per cent of the amount owed in fire tax – the fees Holyrood charges neighbouring communities for fire department protection, have been paid.
“So, we’re in a good financial position there with our revenue,” said Woodford.
Efforts to collect outstanding taxes from previous years are also underway, she added. “Those are from 1987 to 2024, Woodford said. “We’ve reduced the overall amount owing to the Town, right now it stands at about two per cent, which is a really good percentage for uncollected prior years taxes.”
