Carbonear council accommodates emergency sewer situation

By Craig Westcott

Carbonear council has approved an emergency application for a new sewer system at a property on Water Street.
Councillor Stephen Penney made the motion to accommodate the request at council’s December 9 public meeting.
Penney noted the sewer system on the property is in a failed state. However, the Town’s deadline for providing new services this year was November 15.
Penney asked that because it’s an emergency situation, council approve the request and charge the property owner the standard fee for such services. The motion passed unanimously.
The connection fee for a new sewer service is $2,000, which includes the materials and installation to the owner’s property line. Any work needed inside the property line is the responsibility of the property owner.
