Drivers and pedestrians can’t help but have noticed the striking new crosswalks in front of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 50 building on Legion Road in Kelligrews, and at Kitty Ade’s Turn in front of the Cenotaph at the Town Hall in CBS. “It’s a veterans’ crosswalk and if you go up and see it, you’ll know what I’m saying,” CBS Mayor Darrin Bent told his colleagues at council remarked earlier this year. “It’s a depiction of military personnel, the crosswalk is white and red, and it’s just an incredible thing to see.” Bent said the Legion approached the Town a year ago to see if such a crosswalk could be installed. At that point, line painting season was over, so staff in the Town’s public works department teed up the project for this past spring. “It’s fantastic to see and it’s a privilege to be able to support our Branch 50 here in CBS in this way,” Bent said. Some of the Legion members involved in the project, include, from clockwise: Gary Best, Wayne Miller, Charles Kelsey, Woodrow French, Don Nimore, David Lane, Pat Stacey, Ed Leonard, Kelly Rogers, and standing in the back, Branch 50 President Mo Keeping. As always, Branch members will be marking Remembrance Day on November 11 with a special ceremony at the cenotaph. Aggi Westcott photo
