Bursey back on the ballot in Ward 2
By Mark Squibb
Junior Bursey has put his name forward again for election in Ward 2 in Conception Bay South.
A lifelong resident of the town, Bursey served on council from 2017 to 2021, and was one of four candidates to vie for the seat in 2021. Deputy Mayor Andrea Gosse, who is once again running for election in Ward 2, was declared the winner of that contest.
“I loved it,” said Bursey of his time on council. “My motto was that I was in it for the people, and that the people came first.”
Having worked as a paramedic for over 30 years, as well as volunteering with the CBS Fire Department and St. John Ambulance, Bursey, currently employed by NAPE as a membership servicing officer, said he has built a career out of helping folks.
A resident of Long Pond, Bursey said he feels connected to all of Conception Bay South, but especially to Ward 2, which stretches from Manuels Bridge to the east side of Foxtrap Access Road and the east side of Peacock Place, Peachytown Road and Delaneys Road.
“This is where I grew up,” said Bursey. “I live in the property I grew up in.”
Should he be elected, Bursey said, he will prioritize improving road and sidewalk safety, especially in school zones, increasing recreational opportunities, increasing traffic calming to make roads safer, improving the town’s emergency preparedness, and ensuring water and sewer infrastructure is properly maintained.
And while Bursey championed growth for the town, he also cautioned that it has to be done in a reasonable manner.
“There has to be a happy medium,” said Bursey. “Residents have to have a say in that growth, and in the where, and when, and how.”
Come election day, residents will have to choose again between Bursey and Gosse. There are no other candidates on the ballot this time.
“I will work on behalf of residents, and I’ll always get back to residents with an answer,” said Bursey. “I will call residents back, whether the news is good or bad, because residents deserve to know what’s going on.”
