CBS pool contract gets wide range of bids

By Craig Westcott

The calling of tenders to supply maintenance services at the CBS swimming pool may be a good example of why it’s important to get as many options as possible when it comes to price.
While only three companies bid on the three-year contract, the difference in prospective costs was substantial.
When the Town of CBS called tenders for the service this past spring, the yearly charge bid by R&R HVAC Controls was $50,000 a year, plus HST, for a total cost of $172,500. Heating and cooling engineering contractor Carmichael bid $34,098.89 per year, plus HST, for a total of $117,641. The third bidder, Honeywell, offered its services for $23,176.33 per year, plus HST, for a total of $79,958.
Each bidder was also asked to bid on providing the services for an extra two years, after the initial three-year contract expires. R&R HVAC Controls bid $120,000 plus HST for the two extra years, Carmichael bid $75,199 plus HST, and Honeywell bid $50,503 plus taxes.
Council awarded the three-year contract to Honeywell.
Deputy Mayor Andrea Gosse described the service agreement as “fully inclusive” maintenance of the mechanical equipment at the pool.
